No, the white phone..

After learning some interesting details on the Army Corps of Engineers land lease my doghouse sits on.. I may actually buy this craptastic shack Lloyd and I call home.

That Penny bathroom floor is literally the first project on my list!

That is a thing of beauty. How do you seal it?

There’s a coffeehouse in town that has a penny countertop. It’s GORGEOUS! And they used nothing but bright new pennies for it, too. Got it sealed in a nice thick layer of... epoxy? Not quite sure what, but it’s a beautiful piece of work. Your floor looks pretty spectacular, too.

Nice! Good luck with both the house and the penny floor.

A couple tips I learned doing mine:

Kinja'd!!!

1) don’t go in straight rows like I was doing in the pic you used, it is very easy to end up with a gap that will just get bigger as you go along. Instead do diagonal rows like this, This let you slot the new penny into the “pocket” of three already laid pennies(you’ll see what I mean as you work) which does a better job of seating them all tightly.

2) I used liquid nails, but don’t recommend it. It didn’t stick to the pennies well, and I could pop them out with a fingernail after it was dry (fortunately the polyurethane keeps them in place). Use something that says it adheres to metal/glass. Some people use Weldbond, but I swear I saw something that claimed it stuck to everything in caulking tubes at home depot, can’t find it online though.

3) 2-part UV-stable epoxy is the best thing for sealing the pennies, and you can do it in a single layer. I didn’t use that as there were too many gaps into the wall/floor around the edge and I was afraid I’d fill a wall cavity with permanent epoxy.

If you use polyurethane like I did, don’t use the “high build” stuff. It ends up too thick in the pockets between the pennies and took a month to dry. Polyurethane will result in a more yellow floor.

In a year of light use(this is my second bathroom) there is no damage or issues with the floor. The texture of the pennies gives it good wet traction, and any splashed water from the shower just wipes up with a towel.

That was my floor, I use polyurethane (4 coats). others use 2-part epoxy.

Penny floor looks great. I’ve been sort of jealously eyeing the idea after seeing this penny desk build: http://www.epbot.com/2010/09/money-money-money.html

Having the polished penny border is a nice touch though.
